Our Commitment to Sustainability

Wine Racks America is Committed to Sustainably-Harvested Materials

The Woods We Use

The team at Wine Racks America carefully selects sustainably sourced wood species known for their beauty, versatility, and durability.

West Coast Softwoods

Softwoods like pine and alder are fast-growing, beautiful, and renewable. Sourced from long-established tree farms in California and Oregon, the trees are cut and replanted in cycles, maintaining oxygen-rich forests. Softwoods are available in our InstaCellar™ and Living Series™ Collections.

  • Pine: Beautiful and versatile, our furniture-grade Ponderosa pine features a smooth grain that stains beautifully, making it easy to match any decor. Lightweight yet sturdy, pine is ideal for custom wine cellars and home storage systems. Our responsibly sourced pine comes from forests in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Alder: The All-American soft hardwood of choice, alder is full of character with subtle grain patterns that lend a refined, contemporary look. Moderately dense and durable, alder is ideal for wine racks that balance style with lasting strength. Our alder is grown and harvested in the USA.
  • Redwood: Native to the North American coast, our sustainably sourced redwood is naturally resistant to moisture and decay, which makes it a perfect choice for a wine cellar. Its rich reddish hues and distinctive grain offer unrivaled beauty and add elegance to any space.

East Coast Hardwoods

Our East Coast hardwoods are responsibly harvested from sustainable forests across the Eastern U.S., where replanting practices help protect long-term forest health. Known for their strength, durability, and rich natural tones, these hardwoods bring lasting beauty to any wine storage space. You’ll find them featured in our GrandCellar™ and Millesime™ Collections.

  • Black Walnut: A premium American hardwood known for its rich character, the unique grain patterns and natural knots of black walnut give each piece a one-of-a-kind look. Its dense composition adds exceptional strength and a sense of luxury to any wine storage design.
  • White Oak: Harvested in the USA, white oak features a tight grain and warm tones ranging from light tan to medium brown. Its natural moisture resistance and lasting durability make it a top-tier choice for wine cellars.
  • Maple: A strong, smooth-grained hardwood that offers a clean, modern look, maple’s subtle grain patterns and light, creamy color make it a versatile option for both traditional and contemporary wine rooms.

Sapele Mahogany (Imported Hardwood)

This luxurious hardwood is grown in the tropical forests of Africa, prized for its deep, rich color and beautifully pronounced grain. To be sold in the U.S., it must meet strict ethical harvesting certifications, ensuring responsible forestry practices and environmental stewardship. This premium wood brings a refined elegance to wine storage and is featured in our GrandCellar™ and Millesime™ Collections.

Grand Mahogany (Red Grandis)

Also known as Red Grandis, our grand mahogany is a responsibly sourced hardwood grown on Eliana Tree Farms in Uruguay, where ideal climates support consistent quality and sustainable regrowth. As a plantation-grown species, it’s part of a forestry model that prioritizes long-term forest health and biodiversity through ethical, sustainable practices. This beautifully uniform wood is featured in our InstaCellar™ and Living Series™ Collections.
