FAQS

What type of racking will I need for my collection?

The type of racking you will need for your wine collection will depend on the particular wines that you tend to store. Each type of wine has its own unique bottle style that will require a specialized rack. The wine rack you choose should accommodate your most collected wine bottle sizes, shapes, and styles. For more information, you can view our helpful bottle size chart.

At what temperature should wine be stored?

To make sure your collectible wines age perfectly, you will want to mimic the conditions of a natural limestone cave. You should store them between 55 and 60 degrees F, with the humidity level at 65 to 75 percent. It is important that you maintain the right temperatures as high temperatures disrupt the chemical reactions in the bottle. While temperatures that are too cool, on the other hand, can delay proper aging.

Which type of wine cellar cooling unit is best?

There are several options to choose from for cooling your wine cellar, including through-the-wall units, split heat pump systems, and ducted systems. Which unit you choose will depend on several factors. These include the size and existing insulation, and the expected foot traffic in and out of the space. Our team at Wine Racks America can help you determine the best system for your needs.

Where is the best place to build a wine cellar?

Almost any room can serve as a wine cellar if it’s properly equipped. The conditions should be cool and moderately humid, with minimal natural light and few vibrations. Wine Racks America has everything you need to build a proper wine cellar, from racking systems to refrigeration and insulation.

Should I choose metal or wood wine racks?

Both options work great, it just comes down to your aesthetic goals and preferences. Wood wine racks impart a traditional look, and are durable and long-lasting. Metal wine racks are ideal for modern design applications, and are a popular choice in retail stores and restaurants. If your goal is to create a unique, one-of-a-kind cellar, wood is the better choice, because it can be easily sized and finished to your specifications.
