FAQS

What type of racking will I need for my collection?

This will depend on the type of wine bottles that you have and the wine bottle sizes. The wine racks that you use should complement the wine bottles. Check out our handy bottle size chart to see what type of racking you will need.

At what temperature should wine be stored?

Ideally, you should be storing your wine between 55 and 60°F with a relative humidity level of 65 to 75%. These conditions mimic those of a natural limestone cave, which is where wine was traditionally aged. High temperatures disrupt the chemical reactions in the bottle, but temperatures that are too cool can delay proper aging. You may want to consider installing a wine closet.

Which type of wine cellar cooling unit is best?

A wine cellar cooling unit is an important part of a wine cellar. There are many options for you to choose from to cool your wine cellar. These include through-the-wall units, split heat pump systems, and ducted systems. The unit you choose will depend on several factors, like the size of the cellar and existing insulation, as well as the expected foot traffic in and out of the room. Our team at Wine Racks America can help you determine the best cooling system for your Chicago wine cellar.

Where is the best place to build a wine cellar?

Chicago wine cellars can be built in any room if it’s properly equipped. The conditions in the wine cellar should be cool and moderately humid, with minimal natural light; glass cellars are a great option for added visual appeal.

Should I choose metal or wood wine racks?

This all comes down to personal preference. Typically wood wine racks impart a more traditional look and are durable and long-lasting. Metal wine racks are ideal for modern design and are a popular choice for commercial and retail wine cellars.
