While oil-based stains are easier to work with, they emit gas for several months as they cure, which can penetrate the cork and spoil the wine. WineSafe™ is a water-based stain and satin solution that not only protects the wood but also provides a smooth, finished feel to your wine racks.  

When applying stain to your racks, we always recommend adding a satin finish. Water-based stains alone give a beautiful color, but when applied to wood, the wood fibers absorb the stain and tend to feel rough—a phenomenon we call "furring up." Additionally, water-based stains do not penetrate as deeply as oil-based products, so they have the potential to wear off over time. Adding the WineSafe™ satin sealant will protect your stain and give your racks a polished look.
