Features
Door Construction:
Our cellar door shop is staffed by skilled woodworkers with a combined experience of over 20 years. We make doors with 1/4″ veneers – twice as thick as typical doors, which allows for creating a beautiful finish with deep distressing. This also allows the door to be stripped and refinished in the future without milling through the veneer
We use Cope & Stick Dowel construction with Type I (Exterior) glue in both joints as well as around the dowels. This makes a very strong and versatile joint. Dowel construction goes back several centuries and many examples are still in existence today. All doors are made with engineered stiles using solid lumber butcher block type cores with 1/4″ thick solid wood skins. This method makes for a strong and warp resistant door.
Stain colors are applied in our state of the art finish shop, and consist of high quality water-based stain and clear coat finishes. All doors are exterior grade and will seal against the elements to ensure the best possible storage environment for your wine collection.
Automatic Door Bottom:
Each door comes standard with a Pemko automatic door bottom. Auto door bottoms lower to create a tight seal when closed and retract upwards when open, eliminating floor drag. A tight seal ensures your cooling unit runs efficiently for max operating life.
Casings & Jambs:
All Wine Racks America doors come complete with door, door jamb and a set of basic casings. All jambs are milled from solid 2″ material and are precision routed in order to add weather stripping. Decorative door casings cover up the seam around your door and create a finished appearance. Your door, jamb and casings will be stained to match for a beautiful looking installation.
Handleset:
Skip the hassle of installing your own handleset with our pre-installed keyed door latches. Available in Aged Bronze or Satin Nickel finish, this basic latch does the job without adding a lot of expense to your door.
Shipping:
Your door will arrive via LTL carrier on a secure pallet designed to protect your door. We carefully pack and ship each door to arrive in pristine condition. White glove delivery is available by request – contact a Wine Racks America representative today to discuss specific shipping requirements.

Installation
Deliver door(s) to building site after plaster or cement is dry. If doors are stored at job site for more than one week, all edges should be sealed.
Handle with clean gloves and do not drag doors across one another or across other surfaces.
Store flat on a level surface in a dry, well-ventilated building. Cover to keep clean, but allow air circulation.
Doors should not be submitted to: abnormal heat, extreme dryness, humid conditions or sudden changes therein. They should be conditioned to average prevailing relative humidity of the locality before hanging.
The utility or structural strength of the door must not be impaired in the fitting of the door, the application of hardware, or cutting and altering the door for lights, louver, panels or any other special details.
For exterior doors, use three hinges on doors 7’0″ in height or less, and four hinges on doors over 7′ in height.
For all interior doors use three hinges, except two hinges may be used for 1 3/8″ doors weighing less than 50 pounds or 6’8″ or less in height. All doors 7’6″ or higher require four hinges. Allow a fitting clearance of 1/16″ on the hinge side and 118″ on the lock side.
Where installed for outward swing with no protection from the elements, doors must be properly protected by flashing or other suitable means.
Before finishing. remove handling marks or effects of exposure to moisture with a thorough, final sanding over all surfaces of the door using a 3/0 or 5/0 sandpaper and clean before applying sealer or finish. Some species of wood contain a chemical (oak particularly) which reacts unfavorably with certain finishes. Where possible, the surface should be tested for such favorable reactions.
Application of a sealer before finishing will usually prevent this difficulty. The full beauty of wood is best emphasized by the use of a satin or semi-gloss finish.
Immediately after fitting, or cutting for closures, weatherstrip and/or threshold, and before hanging any interior or exterior door on the job, the entire door, including the top and bottom edges, must receive an application of a primer and two coats of a good grade of paint, varnish or lacquer.
Adequate drying time must be allowed between coats. For job site finishing, do not use a water-thinned paint unless an oil base prime coat is first applied. Exterior finishes shall be used on the exterior face and all edges of exterior doors.
